My portrait paintings depict politicians, scientists and artists who have left a mark in history with their struggles, innovations and art; who have been the first to accomplish things. I don't aim to create works that function as documentaries, but rather want to remind people of these individuals in order to increase their awareness. Because, in addition giving us pleasure, artworks also have the power to transform our thoughts.

These people were pioneers, whose lives, struggles and actions led to change and development. If viewers become curious about the figures in my paintings, if they then try to find out more about them or read their books, then I will have been successful in transferring the imaginative process I experienced while painting. As Jacques Ranciére points out: “the images of art provide no ammunition for a fight. They just aid in creating a new image of the visible, the possible.”
